Where have all the years gone? I remember some wonderful childhood memories: Holiday trips to town to ride the magical escalators from all the amazing floors in Kaufmann’s, Horne’s and Gimble’s Department Stores; the special trip to Gilbert's Furniture store when we went up, up, up to see all the new furniture choices for our living room; ice skating with my family at the Civic Arena; mastering the rutted brick roadway while maintaining my speed through the Squirrel Hill tunnel when I was 16, whew! And following our great sports teams from Forbes Field to Three Rivers Stadium to PNC Park. From the Civic Arena to PPG Paints Arena. From Pitt Stadium to Heinz Field. And that was just in the last 59 years! Imagine what I missed in the 141 years before.

It was not hard to pick our beautiful City of Pittsburgh’s Bicentennial Celebration as our main theme for this year’s maze. We owe a big thanks to those talented designers who created the special symbol used by city officials to commemorate this event, for that was the basis of our design... The City of Bridges.

But no, it can never be simple. We had finally completed our design idea and had it plotted out when what should occur? You better believe we could not leave out our awesome Penguins when they brought home Stanley Cup #4! No way!

So Gearhard Farms’ 2016 Corn Maze had 2 themes: First we want to honor our great City of PGH on attaining its Bicentennial Year 1816-2016.

Second we want to send a loud and proud shout out to our super Penguins... Lots of avid fans here on the farm!

And of course our hallmark “G” and “F” was found supporting the base of the symbol of the great state of Pennsylvania, the keystone, in which we reside.

The clues we gave to our visitors this year were: There is a combination of 14 numbers and letters, 3 shapes, and 2 themes or 3 if you count the G and F for Gearhard Farms, as a theme. Good luck and have Fun!
